Population genetic structure and connectivity in three montane freshwater invertebrate species (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Amphipoda) with differing life cycles and dispersal capabilities

چکیده
Dispersal abilities and the resulting levels of connectivity between streams influence population structure in aquatic organisms. We investigated how different dispersal life-history traits affect gene flow three invertebrate species a central European mountain range. used microsatellite markers mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I barcode data to assess small-scale mayfly Baetis alpinus, stonefly Brachyptera seticornis, amphipod Gammarus fossarum seven within Bavarian Forest National Park, Germany. Significant study area was detected B. alpinus G. fossarum, whereas seticornis had signatures panmixia. In that corresponded stream topography, while it did not. The range appears be contact zone for lineages fossarum. Limited geneflow sample sites can explained by species’ short adult lifespans, which restricts sites. Since imagines are able disperse via flight is, however, decoupled from topology. Longer-lived is better maintain flightless corresponding topology limited capabilities streams. ability alone insufficient predict or explain patterns individual species, should examined together with when assessing community structure.

Tracking climate change in a dispersal-limited species: reduced spatial and genetic connectivity in a montane salamander.
Tropical montane taxa are often locally adapted to very specific climatic conditions, contributing to their lower dispersal potential across complex landscapes. Climate and landscape features in montane regions affect population genetic structure in predictable ways, yet few empirical studies quantify the effects of both factors in shaping genetic structure of montane-adapted taxa. Here, we con...

Molecular markers for genetic diversity, gene flow and genetic population structure of freshwater mussel species
Freshwater mussel species are in global decline. Anthropogenic changes of river channels and the decrease of autochthonous fish population, the natural hosts of mussels larval stages (glochidia), are the main causes. Therefore, the conservation of mussel species depends not only on habitat conservation, but also on the availability of the fish host. In Portugal, information concerning most of t...

متن کاملSpecies diversity and population density affect genetic structure and gene dispersal in a subtropical understory shrub
Aims The dispersal of pollen and seeds is spatially restricted and may vary among plant populations because of varying biotic interactions, population histories or abiotic conditions. Because gene dispersal is spatially restricted, it will eventually result in the development of spatial genetic structure (SGS), which in turn can allow insights into gene dispersal processes. Here, we assessed th...
